Ethereum Past, Present,Future

Ethereum has been playing second fiddle to Bitcoin for a while now, in many peoples eyes though they say it could be bigger than Bitcoin/ That sounds a bit of a stretch to me however Let's have a look at where it came from, where it is now and what is its prospects for the future.

History of Ethereum

To start here is Wikipedia definition of its History
Ethereum is an open-source, public, blockchain-based distributed computing platform and operating system featuring smart contract (scripting) functionality.[3] It supports a modified version of Nakamoto consensus via transaction based state transitions. In popular discourse, the term Ethereum is often used interchangeably with Ether to refer to the cryptocurrency that is generated on the Ethereum platform.[citation needed]
Ether is a cryptocurrency whose blockchain is generated by the Ethereum platform. Ether can be transferred between accounts and used to compensate participant mining nodes for computations performed.[4] Ethereum provides a decentralized Turing-complete virtual machine, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), which can execute scripts using an international network of public nodes. "Gas", an internal transaction pricing mechanism, is used to mitigate spam and allocate resources on the network.[3][5]

Ethereum was proposed in late 2013 by Vitalik Buterin, a cryptocurrency researcher and programmer. Development was funded by an online crowd sale that took place between July and August 2014.[6] The system went live on 30 July 2015, with 11.9 million coins "premined" for the crowd sale.[7] This accounts for approximately 13 percent of the total circulating supply.
In 2016, as a result of the collapse of The DAO project, Ethereum was split into two separate blockchains – the new separate version became Ethereum (ETH), and the original continued as Ethereum Classic (ETC).[8][9][10] The value of the Ethereum currency grew over 13,000 percent in 2017.[11
It is fair to say that it all didn't go to smoothly in the past for Ethereum, but it got over its roadblocks and today is trading well on the Cryptocurrency markets.

Performance in the last Year

From being practically worthless to a high of almost $1300 the rise of Ethereum seemed to mirror Bitcoin and looked unstoppable but in Jan2018 it like a lot of other cryptocurrencies hit a wall and its price has dropped since and is now trading early March around $830. Since the last major drop in the Cryptocurrency market its price has steadied, the price is roughly the same as it was a month ago. So now is a good time to take a look at the future prospects of Ethereum as an investment for the future.

(ETH) Ethereum- Where does it go from here?

The first thing to note here that Ethereums price has had a lot of volatility from the start and there is no guarantee of anything different in the future. I wrote a previous article about Smart Contracts and it is these contracts that could give Ethereum the edge in the market just to remind you that Smart Contracts are contracts that are automatically executed without any human intervention the instant their terms are met. A bigger advantage could be though a demand for more DAPPS (DECENTRALIZED APPS) and that would in my opinion boost the price.
Like the rest of the Blockchain technologies Ethereum will still have many hurdles to face including the fork problem which hasn't been resolved yet. One though I believe should not throw all their eggs in one basket in this market and should spread their money around some other coins as well as you never know when an unknown can sprout of from nowhere and suddenly become the next big thing.

In Conclusion

Anyone who thinks they can predict with confidence where the market will go in the next year or so cannot really do it with complete confidence, but even with all the difficulties ahead Cryptocurrency will continue to intrigue, excite and shock us but we will never get bored with it and Ethereum for me in the end is a good long term investment that could be rewarded in a year or two.
Verdict: BUY (Long Term)
